Wow!...I’ve never seen so many Tesla coils all at once! Good work, Tesladownunder!
Upwards of 10 years ago I finished my 1st & only SSTC. Alas, its primary apparatus is no more, but I’m in process of resurrecting the coil with a replacement primary design. NMOSFETs arrayed in a modified bridge scheme (as was the original), this time using 6 pairs of two APT34N80LC3Gs in parallel. Operating directly from voltage-doubled & rectified 115V ac mains. Untuned primary with secondary-return-current feedback (again, like the original). By an additive connection, the transistor array will yield ~2 KV p-p at ~120 KHz across a 3-turn primary.
But that’s still in the works—along with a couple of kinetic sculptures I’m finishing up (I do art as well as Tesla-coiling). But at 82, I may not get it all done...
I post the photo below to show a) what my coil did when it was working and b) the kind of event I’d love to see someday here in the San Francisco Bay area. It’s my Photoshopped fantasy, incorporating two images of my former coil sparking away for all they’re worth atop a disused and half-raised railway bridge a mile or so from my house. (My coil wasn’t as big as it appears, needless to say.)
It’s a shame someone can’t do this. Gotta be plenty of 3-phase ac available right at that bridge. Plus...grounding would be the best there is.
