Building a coil, testing equipment

Hi, I am a student in college and am doing a project of building an audio modulated coil, and I was wondering what equipment one might use to test the output voltage.

do you mean the ouput voltage of the secondary coil?
the output voltage of the driver?

if you are going to test the output voltage of the coil, you can either estimate based on spark lenth,
or you could have an analog voltmeter, with a resistor string. and then multiply the reading on the meter based on your resistor string.

The resistor string voltage divider won't work because the resistors have a capacitance in parallel with it. If all the parts were ideal (no inductance in series with the resistor and no capacitance in parallel with the resistor) then it would be fine. Here's an example of a 60kV voltage divider. Link2
I would say that estimation of the output voltage by the spark length would be best. It still isn't very accurate because sparks behave differently depending on the high voltage's freq. There should be a few equations that can give you an estimate of the voltage by knowing the spark length and freq. When measuring, you should measure the distance it needs to strike ground and not how far you can pull an arc.
