Hi all. Just had a thought about the possibility of running a small lifter from the rf field of a tesla coil.
the basic plan is to use tuned lightweight secondaries feeding a series connected air insulated "string" of identical piezo transformers/drivers with diodes separating them. if a capacitor is connected across each section then the voltages should add.
this is superficially similar to a standard diode split flyback but using piezo transformers to get around the weight limit.
the way to avoid transformer breakdown is to drive each from its own isolated secondary section so each "sees" only some of the output voltage.

I am a lifter ace, been building them since 1996, I can asure you this is a unique idea I have never heard of such a thing, But I am intrigued, I am currently building a 3 Kw ferrite Barsoukov modified lifter.
I would like, more details of your plan.
EDIT: On second thought the ion stream would be influenced by both the E-fields, (Tesla coil toroid emitted and then the local field emitted from the lifter itself.) mmmmm.... I need to think about your idea some more....

hmm.. yes, that would make sense. i did also wonder about the merits of using optical coupling (LED/solar cell) to get around the need for multiple secondaries.
I am aware that Tesla himself was experimenting with wirelessly powered aircraft (from another thread)
the useful thing with solar is that the setup would potentially run in daylight if sufficiently concentrated using Fresnel lenses.
hmm.. maybe a variant on the "lightcraft" but using lower power laser (a few hundred watts) to get the craft to startup altitude where solar power takes over.

Conundrum,
Alexander DeSeversky who discovered the ion wind by accident, also suggested solar missle shield to stop the rusky pansy A-bombs by flying large screens (like 1 mile in diameter) into the flight path of incoming missles. At like 200,000 feet, all in a popular mechanics article I read in 1995, though the article was from I think 1954.
Hey do these pics show up?
Yay, it worked! So this is my Sine and Cosine transformer case for the Ferrites, to run my Barsoukov modified lifter. It took me 2 months to make this case.
