NSFW, NSF.. etc ....

FWIW I have had the mother of all paper jams on an Epson R600 before, requiring the services of:- a pair of locking hemostats, tweezers and a fine screwdriver to remove. And required cleaning the rollers with IPA before it deigned to print again.

my best one was on an hp all-in-one. someone had dropped a little plastic divider from something in there, that was an (insert invocation of your choice) to remove.

once found a Kyocera laser printer someone had chucked because of paper jams, with full cartridge. Used that for a couple of years before it went to Silicon Heaven (or Hell, if Epson/HP/etc)

Hahaha, that's great. I'm like Reaching, I've not experienced this horror due to using laser printers. :D

For more on the love of printers, see You Know What's Bullshit Episode 8: Printers

Here's the rest of the series.

Hah, quite amusing.

I find this one to be perfect for the forum. Link2

It mentions Nikola Tesla, and i know Noelle and Kizmo have/love cats.

Enjoy
Matthew.

I've heard from the brother of an HP employee that HP ink is the most expensive liquid on earth.

i have half a dozen hp all in one printers here.

interestingly they have parts which are truly cool for making Repraps etc, such as the actuators and precision cut bearings.

anyone have a use?

also have an epson label printer with thermal AND dot matrix modules, seems a shame to trash it. PM me if anyone has a use.
includes steppers galore...
Its a bit heavy at 8 kilos but most of that is the casing.

Ah yes, how to make a stepper motor turn without fancy electronics? Typically you need two bipolar or four unipolar pulse trains, 90 degrees out of phase.

Well, one way to create such a signal is ... use another stepper motor as a generator!

This demo has 2 steppers and a connectorized 5-wire cable, all pulled from a printer. No soldering after they left the factory. When you turn the pinion of big motor by hand, rapidly enough, the small motor turns by the same angle. smile

Continuous Ink Flow Systems are $40 if you get a kit, or less if you make your own.

The old laser printers generally outlast the computer...
still printing... and slowly oozing cigarette stain yellow fire retardant.
