I´ve aquired another toy now, actually it was a few days go.

Here are some pics:

After removing a rainforest worth of newspaper, this is revealed:

Filament connections:

Peering down the OC:

The HR:

It dident take long for it to find a home it liked:
001
002
003
004

After around a hours labor, i got some end plates cut, bent and filed to size:

Next on the venue is to make a hole in the top and some vents in the sides for the fan to suck air through to keep the tube cool.

And heres a video of this laser running, due to the inadequate fan i can only run the laser for about a minute: Link2

I also got ahold for a genuine spectra physics 161B laser head housing that i only need to add my tube and a fan to, to make a complete laser head.

To the above i bought a bracket on ebay containing two 12V 6" 240CFM fans

Glad to see you got it running!

You mentioned on your post on photonlexicon that you were having issues getting the filament voltage right--if you need to 'fine tune' the filament voltage you can do 2 simple things:
1. Add more wire between the transformer and the filament. With the amount of current it draws even a foot or two can cause a significant voltage drop.
2. If that seems like too much of a kludge, you can wind more turns around the torrid, and then connect them in series with the primary. Be careful with the direction, adding turns in one direction will increase the output voltage (and probably cause the core to saturate), and if you reverse the polarity it will decrease the output voltage. There is probably about 200 turns on that toroid, so even adding a few turns can made a 10-20% difference in output voltage.

Good luck!

Im gonna solve it by winding one more primary turns.

A small update again: Link2

Next is to put the psu in a proper home and add the neccesary circuits such as preheat timer, interlocks, a proper automatic softstart and a proper power supply for the fans and the control circuit.
