Here's my Ring Toss Physics demo.
I had problems attaching files in the EM Projectile thread so I need to figure out how to correct that.
>>>>Specifics ...since I was pulled aside and told I have to put them here<<<<
The system is 120 VAC fused to a HV tripler giving me about 450VDC output. This then goes to two ballast resistors of 3000R 50W. That goes to a charge relay and on to the 3 capacitor bank of 680uF @ 450VDC, giving me a whopping 206J to toss the ring.
The DC side to trigger the charging relay is a 12V SPS which delivers 7A and also drives the big relays to fire the ring. I have used 2 because the coil voltage was 6V and I got them surplus.
A voltage divider was employed giving 10:1 division for the remote readout DMM and 12 V was supplied in the cable along with the charge/fire return line from momentary switch to main housing. A short or other failure caused the 5V regulator to heat and take out the DMM at the same time. Most likely a kickback from the relay.
Future improvement will be I think a 1KA SCR for firing purposes to minimize size. Along with a smaller box, improved circuit board, new readout, etc.
Well, that about wraps it up for now. I will post something when its improved, and, with a split ring to demonstrate eddy currents.
Anyway, It will get improved when I have time.
