Hi there...

ive been away for a long time, but now im back^^

ive been working on my new drsstc9 for a few months now, and i think, the project is ready to be published now.
the renewal is not the coil but the modulator. the modulator is completely digital an suited with a few adcs and many other logic.. with this new modulator, it is possible to change the sound color of drsstc discharges in many variations.. ist possible to create pseudo polyphonic sounds and a wide variety of other sounds too..

i recorded three videos to show you how i can change the sounds with the modulator and a few software synthesizer programs on my laptop.. the video quality is bad, cause i have no camcorder anymore.. a cheap digicam vid is all i have for now until my new camcorder arrives.

Best sound so far. I'm quite curious to see how you did it.

hm okay. its not that easy to explain.

basically its a pwm on time modulation by the audio input amplitude. the pwm is divided into 255 steps by an 8 bit adc and a second adc to get a time constant.. these two 8 bit words will be compared by an 8 bit magnitude comparator, resulting in an pwm modulated output signal. with these trick its possible to get really nice effects, such as long discharges with a high amplitude, and smaller with a small amplitude. so you can control the lenght of the discharge by variing the audio volume... its possible to modulate the discharge lenght by any waveform you want.. (for sure with a software synthesizer on a laptop etc), to get even more effects.

but thats not all. the off time modulation is the point which leads into these characterisitc sounds. with some software plugins combined with this modulator its possible to modulate the off time in many variations too. modulating the off time with eg 60hz will result in 2 different sound frequencies changing 60times a second.. that sounds like a polyphonic sound, or just like 2 notes playin at the same time. its possible to add delay, reeverb and hall effects, etc....

in a few days i can upload some more vids with better sound and video quality, and maybe a block shematic to show you what i mean

Was the program on your laptop Fruityloops studio? Reminded me of it. Looks and sounds cool! cheesey I have done musical to my SSTC using Keygen music.

Link2

The reason for the link, is because its an online database that allows you to download usually .mp3 files of keygens. Keygens are all 'chiptune' songs. So if you ever need a chiptune song (like i did) keygen music is the thing to try. :) For those who want to know, that site is only music. Not the actual files, not the links. Just, music. And i guess most but not all are chiptune..

Looks nice :) i looks like you have a metal shield behind your computer? Else it could be a mesh chair. Anyways, is that laptop one you use, or a oldy that wouldn't be too important if it was to somehow die? Just wondered :). Keep up the good work!

Yep, its a shielding for the laptop and it works quite well.. before i used this shielding, the touchpad of the laptop got weird from time to time when the coil was running.

its just a simple plastic mesh, covered with some alu tape. to hold the mesh in form, i used thick wire on both sides etc.

the laptop is an old sony vaio around 5 years old. the batteries are dead, so its more like an old desktop computer in form of a laptop... :) but it works quite well under such conditions,. good old fashioned electronic, hehe...
