I was lucky to find a big rear projection tv on the street during the summer. theres 3 CRTs in it, each of them projects motion pictures in a primaty colour, red blue and green. they all share the same flyback transformer. all of the CRTs' HV line are connected to a block looking thing with 4 hv lines (1 goes to the flyback, the rest goes to the CRTs) I have no idea what that thing it is. could it be a voltage multiplier or just a simply a device to split 1 HV line into 3 HV line?

The voltage mulitplying/tripling takes place in the flyback transformer package. In a typical CRT projector the EHT output is about 30-35KV. which is then split three ways to feed the final anode of each CRT.

I have never seen a DC flyback with integrated multiplier, all that I have seen use the diode split design (some 5 windings separated by diodes) and in some types, usually those from a PC monitor, the HV is filtered with a built-in HV cap.
I wonder why don't they make the transformer with 3 wires already coming off it?

Right? Seems like if they were trying to cut costs, 3 wires coming outta the flyback would be the cheaper option. Then again, maybe they just got a good deal on those flybacks and it was cheaper to put in the splitter.
