Is that two Tek P5210s there? That's about USD 5,000 of differential probes (connected to a 'scope worth a fraction of that)! Work or personal?

Yes. Two of them. I got a good deal on Ebay.

Just a hobby.

Hi all
I would greatly appreciate that you credit the original source of that schematic.

I took your scheme for a basis and have a little finished it. The original scheme has problems. Try to construct a heater under my schematic. Video

Just a Health & Safety note. You might want to think about fume extraction. I seem to remember being told that melting certain steels in open air liberates some nasty toxic stuff. I think it was something to do with Nickel or Chromium in the metal mix that boils off? I'm sure one of the chemists here can clarify or refute that.

Anyway, it's probably not a good idea to do this inside where people with breathe the fumes.

I can say that anything I have heated and melted so far has released a large quantity of fumes. I would never do this indoors.

All of my experiments have been done outside, unless I am scoping the signals, which I have done at lower voltages and heating.

Zinc vaporizes at 1650F. I don't know if zinc fumes are actually toxic. Breathing them will make one sick and have flu-like symptoms. But, being an essential element in the body, I do not believe there are any long-term sequella. See this link. However, if one has to do anything in a confined space I suggest going to Home Depot and getting a respirator mask.

I understand that it is not useful for health.
