I'm in the process of evaluating barrel material for my new multistage coilgun. My current candidate is thermoplastic tubing. The material is much the same as the incredibly annoying, neigh indestructible stuff small electronics come packaged in. I just got samples of 3/4" and 1/2" ID tubing. The 1/2" ID in particular is quite rigid, and seems to be very well suited to a coilgun, so long as your projectile is carefully deburred. Its very smooth and slick inside, nearly as thin walled as a metal tube of similar size, and is clear, making triggering pretty simple.
Here's the problem. I have to buy a minimum order of about 700 feet of the stuff, or about $130. I only need ~40' of it. I'm loathe to buy so much unless I can find 3 or 4 other people who might want some and could kick in a few bucks to help offset the costs. I guess after that the rest can go on eBay or some such.
Dimensions are: 13.9mm ID 14.7mm OD 0.4mm wall thickness

The website calls it PETG, I'm not sure exactly how specific that is, but its quite rigid, I've got the wall thickness above, its .4mm. You probably wouldn't be able to wind 12awg wire on it without damaging it, but smaller stuff wouldn't be any problem at all.
rp181, that would be approximately $0.18 plus shipping ;). I'm hoping to find a few folks who might be able to use >30' before I actually place the order, as shipping will be expensive on a 4' tube of that sort. Once we get a couple hundred feet sold, I'll place the order.
My numbers were slightly off. Each box is more than 1,000', and its $160. If I can find somebody (or somebodies) that are interested in at least 25%, I'll be able to go ahead and order it.
