Hi. I have a 2C39A tube that i would like to use in a small vttc. What power supply would you suggest? also, any tips greatly appreciated.

Well, you could design a small smps. That would be fairly simple. You could use a 'ZVS driver', AKA Mazilli driver, and an old LOPT core and some spare wire and insulation, such as transparencies. A fullwave rectifier could be made with a string of 3 UF4007 diodes, and four of those strings.

But, that would not be driven right off the line voltage, unless you modify it a bit and use more primary turns and such. The only other thing i can think of is a plate transformer, or a voltage multiplier off the line voltage, or from a step up transformer.

Thanks for the idea. I think for a zvs/flyback power supply i would have to add many more primary turns and use a smaller cap right?

According to the data sheet Va 600V is 'typical' for this once famous UHF triode.

If you live in a 230V mains country, you could run 2C39A with a simple voltage doubler, preferably from an isolation transformer, to get your 600V

If it were my project, I would use a 400-0-400 transformer to create the 1kV Va(max) - nowadays a costly but reliable way to proceed.

Take care you observe the heater waiting time of 60 seconds before applying HT, if you want your valve to last. As you will know from the data sheet, optimum conditions are achieved for 2C39A when Vf is matched to the required Ik . I would suggest using DC for the heater, with a variable voltage regulator (e.g. LM317T) so adjustments can be made for optimum conditions.

A voltage tripler from 230 volts AC will give you around 1000V DC.
I have used a symmetric voltage quadrupler (1300Vdc) for my vacuum tube flyback driver without problems.

If you were to use a tripler, the capacitors would have to be about 50uF/750V for Iout 125mA. A disagreable ripple voltage and 'sag' are to be expected.
