Hello all, very confused at the moment. Drsstc was running great and now I seem to be having flashovers all of a sudden, I moves the coil to another room and it's just started happening. I've raised it and still have the issue so I'm kind of out of ideas really and need some advice from you genius's

The coils surroundings will change its resonant frequency, is it much different in the new room?
Higher to the ceiling, large objects closer to or further away now?
Have you tried moving it back, just to confirm that its not the location, but could be some of your electronics that was messed up, maybe some grounding that had a loose connection...
Right I have moved it back to the other room and all is well. I didn't think the room would make such a big difference. I have to do a demonstration on Monday how can I make sure this doesn't happen in this other room. When I moved it to the other room I changed the tappoint and lifted the seconday. Still had the problem tho. How can I cure this? Would a loose tap point to the primary cause this?

Air humidity is another thing to consider, I remember having quite a few flashover problems with my SSTC, when the relative humidity of my lab jumped 20%.
Is there a significant difference, in humidity between the two rooms? As Mads already pointed out the coils surroundings can have an effect on the coils frequency, which could be a cause of your flashovers. Were you running the coil in close proximity to a wall in any of the two rooms? However, assuming you have the LC circuit tuned to slightly below resonant to account for the sparks, the change in the resonant frequency shouldn't be that great.
What are you using for primary? A form with wire wrapped around it, or copper tubing suspended in air?
