Hello, I bulit this driver for my drsstc
Link2
And, this is the problem, my tc ( this time in only SSTC system (without capacitor) is sparking only when i touching the feedback CT.
I dont know what to do with it.

in my another drsstc i have the completely same driver, Same parts, and same PCB.
And that one works good.
Why is this so?

Thanks for answers

There are several possible explanations for this fault, none of which need exclude the others:

1. Feedack is insufficient. When you touch the centre tap, you are adding an antenna to it, increasing the percentage of the energy fed back.

2. The resonant frequency of the feedback circuit is too different to the resonant frequency of the secondary for oscillation to be sustained. By touching the centre tap you are adding capacitance and thereby lowering the resonance of the feedback circuit to bring it in line with the secondary resonant frequency.

3. The resonant frequency of the feedback circuit is slightly different to the secondary resonance, but the Q is so high as to reject any off-tune feedback. Touching the centre tap lowers the Q, thereby increasing bandwidth sufficiently for oscillation to occur despite the frequency misalignment of the two circuits.

4. Touching the centre tap may have the effect of adding a Virtual Earth, thereby improving the radiation efficiency of the secondary, and hence the level of feedback.

Solutions: first try adding extra turns to the feedback winding, a few at a time. If this is unsuccessful, see what effect attaching two metres of hook-up wire to the centre tap has. If adding this antenna makes it work, trying shortening the wire a bit at a time, to find out how little is actually needed.

My CT are from Microbrute's DRSSTC. Magnetek I think,. it says that it has 200:1 ratio of internal winding. So it is insufficient you're saying? and what kind of 2 meter wire you said for antenna? Also, where is the CT's center tap? I got osillations by touching the connection of the 4 diodes between (d1,d3) and (d2,d4) after the CT from the schematic like in Steve ward's Universal driver,. and when I vary the interrupter, The sparks gone to 1 mm sparks from toroid. frown thank you for your advice, but please I am still needing help..

I have completely misunderstood your question - where I come from, 'CT' stands for 'centre tap' - so you'll have to ask someone else, I'm afraid - but it is a good lesson for me
never to comment on a question not accompanied by a full circuit diagram. Good luck with it! smile

There is a link to a schematic in the first post in this thread.

CT is current transformer.

I can only see two diodes in the CT circuit in the schematic, not four. Also the windings ratio in the schematic is 1:60, not 1:200.

I think some of PM's points are still valid, though.

I don't know enough about these circuits to be able to comment, though. (I assume you've checked that it isn't just a bad connection?)
