Hi all, I have an ADSL modem with a native hardware DynDNS client. It works with the free DynDNS service only, which is really neat, but I don't like the example.dyndns.org subdomain.
Is there any way I can set up another domain to mirror the IP address as updated by DynDNS.org?
For example, now: example.dyndns.org resolves to 11.22.33.44 (thanks to DDNS client)
I have a domain with DNS and can manually specify an A record so that belgium.example.com resolves to 11.22.33.44 (for now, until it changes)
I have tried setting up a CNAME record to pinch the DDNS resolution: dyndns.example.com points to example.dyndns.org

great that you got it working : - ) - I thought I might add my two cents too the interested (BTW, note that whenever you make a change in DNS or any related things it can take a little while to update and start working)
what I actually use is a service called ZoneEdit (free for up to five domains) and have my domain name point to there name servers, and I have a little client running on the server that checks to see if the IP has changed and if it has it updates the Zone Edit settings - they have clients for all platforms, but I like to use their Python Script set to run in the Cron Tabs
also, if you have a router behind your modem, most of them have several options for Dynamic Update Services - some are for common services like the one you use, and some are run my the manufacturer of the router
personally, I think the script and zone edit works great, I never once had a problem once I got it set up and best part is that NO WHERE does my domain have to be linked with a sub-domain. Also, you don't have to have the client running on the server but it can run on any machine that is within your network on the same IP...
the only concern is that you update the information securely, but that should not be much of an issue especially if you use a client

Thanks DaJJHman,
It steals the DynDNS.org zone information OK, so I have CNAME records: example.com > example.dyndns.org > [11.22.33.44 dynamic] www.example.com > example.dyndns.org > [11.22.33.44 dynamic]
Unfortunately, the TLD CNAME record seems to exclude having a TLD MX record. But this is OK for what I need. I had never seen the hardware DynDNS client until now, so I can have my ADSL/NAS working together autonomously without need for a computer :)
