Check out the Philips I2C specification - Section 18.1 on page 43 shows how to change logic levels with two resistors and an N-channel FET in each line Any FET with a low enough Vgs-thresh should work although for higher speeds a lower capacitance device is required. You can easily do 100kHz I2C with Fairchild/Zetex BSS138s (SOT23)
