Hey all,
As you know, Christmas is right around the corner (though it does not feel like it, still get up to 70-80 degrees F here). I figured i would start a thread to help people look for presents or wish lists for themselves, me included. I tend to be very bad at deciding on things for myself, and sometimes others may know a thing or two about where to get certain components, instruments, or other hard-to-find things, that are not normally found in stores.
This year, i have about 80 dollars worth from my parents, maybe 100 if they feel like being awesome ^.^. I may get 100 bucks in all from other people (that i don't even particularly like *cough father's side of the family cough*). I have already decided on getting a 10 dollar pair of 10x scope probes, to help with finding phase shift and comparing voltages/voltage drops in circuits.
I am still looking for a pentode, but i am having trouble deciding! I can get a NOS gu-81m pentode for about 55 dollars shipped. Not bad for .65kw . Is there some other deal i am unaware of that would be a better deal? Also, where would you actually suggest i get some copper clad from. I do not need too thick, as of now. Something like 1 amp per 1mm width of a trace would be way more than enough for anything.
So, what are you guys' plans for Christmas for yourself or others? If you want help finding something, i guess this is the place to do it .

Copper clad? As in; unetched pcb material? Well, mpja has a nice selection, including boards that are already coated with photo-resist. - No uv necessary, just a 100w incandescent.

Hi Arcs, you have me confused here:
of course there are very costly grades of PCB (thick PTFE) that a mass manufacture military contactor might have used 30 years to embed large power pentodes, but with one off jobs you would be better off by far with point to point. A piece of board rated at 3kV flashover will cost a lot more than your valve
There's lots of large power pentodes about, and there is nothing mysterious about any of them.
I have urged you before to get some practical and theoretical experience with smaller valves, before throwing thousands of dollars into a half-baked idea, and you have implied on several occasions that in your case this is not necessary, so why the questions now?
You can't ask for advice, and reject it at the same time?

Well, as the last statement in your thread topic, My plans have already been bought. Updating to ipod touch 3rd gen (70 dollars off the 32gb) and getting tools, such as auto wire stripper, drill bits for my drill press, and so forth. Met my Christmas limit as far as parents/uncles paying for things.
For you..I guess it depends what your low on, could always do what you told me, Get a bag of parts. such as resistors..capacitors..or maybe an assortment. Maybe you possibly need some tools also?

As to Copper Clad, I always get mine here. He has a great selection of various clads including heavy foils and always packs everything wonderfully and fast. Highly recommended.
I have no idea what I want for Christmas. A band saw with a dimond blade would be nice. Oh, and Modern Warfare 2.

drill press with milling vise, ten more 5600uF 500V caps for my bank, a dual drive HDD docking station that doesn't break as easily as the ThermalTake ones, and a new Server setup... I understand most of it will never happen, being as that my parents have no idea what any of these things are other than possibly the drill press, but I always am fine with gift cards good for a hardware store or in the form of Visa cards
and Dalus, I plan to do a similar thing, but I am debating wheter or not to get the individual tubes, or get a lot of the larger tubes that have eight or so digits... or a Nixie Tube Watch, but the maker of that is sold out right now : - P
