Worst one we had was BC (Before Children) when my (now) wife & I were doing the "South America" thing back in the '80s...

Came across one chicken hut masquerading as a hostel which advertised "agua caliente" (hot water) - what they had actually done was stick a kettle element, complete with bare wires, under the head of the shower. Took a photo, but of course its on 35mm stock (Ektachrome 400) and not yet scanned (20,000+ slides in the boxes still...)

Well, there was the time we needed to plug a 5KW stage lamp, but we didn't have the correct power supply.
On the other hand we had got lots of places with 13 amp sockets.
So we wired two 13 amp plugs to a 32A socket and plugged the lamp into that.
Then we had another problem- there was only 1 13 amp socket in the room, so we got a 13 A extension cable and plugged it in in the next room along.
Then I checked they were on the same phase- and they were- so we switched it all on and it worked just fine. But I still had my fingers crossed when I threw the switch that connected the two live lines together.
That was part of the lighting rig for the end of year ball at Lincoln College Oxford in 1987 or 88.
Academic excellence meets kludge. wink

Conundrum, thanks for the link. I got so many laughs out of those pics, so much "holy crap i can't believe it!" winning. I only got through a few pages (once i hit the home page and realized there were more than 2 pages of entries ;) ) before other stuff got in the way. Definitely going into my mental bookmark file, "Break Glass when you need to laugh HARD."

Thanks Again. Cheers&Highfives

I just got sucked into that site for about an hour. I love the hot buffet tray held up by Miller Lite cans.

Those are some interesting kludges. I think it was the keys in the outlet that roped me in!
Good stuff!

Heh. I should post the picture of the kludged Canon charger I made using an Olympus unit, Polymorph, epoxy and three small pieces of springy brass, after taking exception to a >£70 charger.

Worked fine, and kept me going until the original showed up.

Yes I am aware of the hazards, yadayada. Made sure the charger had similar capacity and watched it like a hawk to make sure nothing untoward happened.

Another neat trick is to "harvest" the safety circuit from a spare phone battery for those bare Lipo cells.
