I'm trying to find some relatively small diameter PET or PVC tubing, similar to what might be used for protecting fluorescent light bulbs. That sort is readily available, but I'm looking for something on the order of 1/2"-1" diameter. I'm trying to keep the walls as thin as possible as well, which makes PET the best bet I think. I've found several large wholesale suppliers, but it would require purchasing many hundreds of feet of the stuff (about $120 for 640').

Examples of what I'm hoping for are something like this Link2

There are also some on ebay, such as Link2 but I can't bring myself to pay $4 plus $8 shipping when for $120 I can get 200 times as much.

Anybody seen this stuff at a reputable reseller or surplus dealer? Anybody have any in the appropriate size range, and know if it would be rigid enough on its own to suffice as a coilgun barrel if well supported?

You could try American Science and Surplus. There is a store local to me that always has that stuff. They will send you a catalog but i do not know
if the tubing is exactly the stuff you are looking for. Heres a link!
Link2
Hope they have what you want, i see those tubes in the store in 3' lengths for a buck.

I just hunted through their site pretty carefully and didn't see any of the tubing. I did request a catalog, so hopefully they'll have it in there. If you happen to make a trip to their store, I would certainly appreciate a couple photos or measurements!

Hey dave,

Link2

I know these guys have PVC and Tygon tubing (if tygon maybe preferred, depends on what you are going to use the tubes for. Used to buy from them while I was still overclocking.

Price per foot of
Normal PVC (5/8 OD): 0.59$ per foot
Tygon is: 2.95$
ClearFLEX 60 (PVC) is 1.25$ per foot.

They aren't the cheapest but have maintained "reasonable" prices even during the intense commercialization of computer water cooling and overclocking.

Might be worth checking out.

Best Regards,
Rok B.

EDIT: Just reread your post. -.- Didn't noticed the fact that it must be rigid. Sorry for the OT. :)
Maybe these guys: Link2
