hi guys, loveHV you'll need to use water cooled workcoil made of cooper tubing. I think that 1/4'' will be fine. thermal insulation would help a lot. I melted bronze, cooper and aluminum using small alumina crucible or graphite crucible at 1.2KW from mains.freq is about 180Khz

Hernan,
I have my coil set up for water cooling, but I have not implemented it yet. What is the benefit of cooling the work coil other than keeping it cool? Does it prevent the resonant frequency from drifting, or keep the work coil resistance low?

Hi Iam, yes, the water keeps the coil resistance low to increase efficiency . also when no thermal insulation is used in the workcoil the heat radiated from the workpiece heats the cooper a lot.

Thanks for al those tips, i now use bare copperwire but it heats in minutes.
But for watercooling, do you need destilled water ? Because won't normal water short circuit the coil trough the watertank ?
Also I have this small ceramic pot for planting, can I use this to melt the metals in ? Won't it burst ?
And I aquired 4 capacitors rated 560nF 630V 12.5A RMS from an induction heater cooking plate, can I parallel those 4 to get a lower fres without them getting hot and catching fire ? I want to get Fres as low as possible to reduce switching losses.

I bought 1" x 3/16" copper rod from onlinemetals.com
My first cap bank has 20 0.047uf caps, and Fres is 141kHz. I am going to build a second using 20 0.47uf caps in order to get a Fres near 46kHz. I have soldered 1/2" copper pipe with the appropriate fittings so I can pump water through the cap bank bus bars, which attach to the work coil coil. The work coil is 3/8" refrigerator pipe. I will use a small pump to circulate water through the LC tank, cooling it.
