(dons tinfoil hat)...

Needless to say, the lesson here is to (a) use paid for firewall, antivirus and antimalware, (b- keep secure backups, (c) regularly nuke your pc's from orbit with Darik's Boot and Nuke, and (d) if you suspect malware assume the worst and nuke from orbit, don't even try and repair the damage, recover from clean backups.

Its interesting to note that malware can find its way onto a machine through P2P, as well as innocuous channels such as updates to installed add-ons. (see the Flash vuln)

Another one to watch out for is second hand drives, that can harbour malware/illegal material/etc even if formatted.

Thanks for the heads up...

*cleans the crap out of everything.*

Ya know, the internet is almost nothing but unpleasant. That is one thing about 4hv, it is one of the few places that actually *helps*. Not to mention, almost every other site i go to gives me pop-ups, and sometimes pornographic ones.

And one time, i was downloading something, and Avast! caught something messing around in my background. It turned out to be something that did give me pornographic adds, and the like.

I am almost at the point that i will unplug my internet from the computer. It is just so unfair that people have a nice chunk of their lives taken away by these people.

EDIT: BAM! Kicked it down a notch.

Just use a proper browser with pop-up blocking and preferably adblock, even better use linux so you don't need antivirus or have to worry about viruses at all... Can't remember the last time when I saw a popup or an annoying ad. Let alone a virus.

I use noscript to block scripts from running on sites that aren't allowed. I'd have to manually enable the script to get it to run. It's annoying at first but after you let scripts run on the pages you visit frequently, there isn't much of a problem.
