Little Stella And Her Battle Againt the Eunuchs

Chronology: I received am email from a 'senior' forum member telling me that 4HV was no place to flaunt issues of transsexualism, and that my gender identity should only be accepted under the infamous "Don't ask! Don't tell! military doctrine of President Clinton.

I then received another email where the subtext suggested that I should step down as Moderator, since Minors had access to the site.

And one more of the type which covertly acknowledges that the battle over GLBT rights would see the end to their hopes of academic tenure, but now declined my gift of certain rare and valuable components which they had asked me for only the week before.

This had me in tears, since I give and give again to the forum and its members, and though I make many mistakes, I try always to increase the standard of technical discourse in 4HV. I always try to welcome and care for newcomers, to help them get their first foot on the ladder, which I always hope might be the one small step out of the ghetto and give them the same comfortable lifestyle which most EEs enjoy.

Very foolishly, I allowed myself to lose face, and being much hurt, said that I was through with 4HV, as if the Red Queen should have any fear of the little skirmishes between Pawns that she sees before her on the board.

And so I felt very low and ill-used, and thought of retreating to Charley's safe space for techno-dykes, feeling sorry for myself.

But then a miracle happened without my even asking the Father to set right what I felt was an unjustified rubbishing of the Good if I have tried to do in forum since I was privileged to become a Moderator.

Over the next 48 hours I received 19 messages, emails, 'phone calls and twitters urging me to stick with 4HV, and even one from a non-OUT techno-dyke saying I had no moral right to back off and so leave wimmin like herself alone in the dark, where she would have to pretend to be a man - as I foolishly had tried to do - in order to be accepted in techno forums.

I'll never be much good at being a Moderator, because I am much more likely to intervene over posts which are dirty, destructive, dangerous or deluded, than to infringements of structural rules. Anyway, it would be a poor sort of democracy where the Moderators had to agree equally amongst themselves, and we each have differing strengths and weaknesses which make a for a healthy, fertile mix.

So my love and thanks to the wonderful 19 who wrote, phoned and twittered in my behalf.

Before your surprising question, it had not occurred to me that I was being spied upon, in this way, but I suppose I had better place an announcement in the forum to say that I have ASD, that you have set about bringing it into public focus on this forum in order to invalidate my position.

I had thought better of you until now, though you never bothered to thank me for GM tubes I sent you, but will not now back off until this whole spying on Stella and unnatural interest is lesbianism is brought into the fullest public focus.

If the 4HV members think I should go because I am an outspoken lesbian with ASD, we shall simply put it to a democratic vote.

If the voters follow you then I shall withdraw and go elsewhere. If they vote for equal rights then all will agree that you must never again shame our forum with your spying and nastiness.

Is this fair? If I do not have a full written explanation for your spying on me in a public arena, I shall place the question of your anti-lesbian anti-disability campaign against me into any and all forums in the English and Norwegian language, and ask your employers to terminate your employment on the clear grounds of your Nazi sympathies.

My own dear father, who is now in Heaven, was very seriously wounded in the Battle of Narvik, and my uncle was tortured by the Nazis for helping the Partisans to hide reindeer from the Germans in Finnmark. So they gave of their lives only that you should now start stalking their daughter across the web.

So there's no bluffing, and no easy way out for you, Mr Quisling. You've picked on the wrong girl this time.

What's the big deal here? Half of our members probably have an autistic spectrum "disorder" of some sort. If you work in engineering or computing, well, those professions more or less select for it. I scored pretty high on the "AQ" test myself.

This is one of my pet axes to grind, how so-called "normal" people take anything they don't like, brand it as a disorder, and try to find a cure for it, when it's actually really useful to society, to boot.

I wouldn't be so sure of claiming that half of our members were gay, but it shouldn't make any difference. 4hv is no place to flaunt issues of anything outside of science and electronics, bearing in mind that feelings, emotions, and sex (if I dare mention it on the forum!) just get in the way of the practice of science, and the ideal scientist has no truck with any of it. Eunuchs is an operating system, and a gender change is what you use when your printer cable won't fit.

Of course I don't really believe this. Scientists all have feelings, but disguise them as logic when having a scientific debate

PS: I'm sure Bjorn will apologize for googling up dirt on you, if you apologize for posting his private messages in a public forum. (edit: and, I just noticed, threatening him with blackmail...)

I am in agreement with Steve on this one. 4hv is for science and technology. If you look at the messages of encouragement for you Harry/Stella, no one cared whether you were or were not transgendered, but they wanted you back so that you could focus on science.

I however don't approve of the fact that you are threatening other forum members this way. In fact that behavior shouldn't be tolerated at all.

I also don't approve of the fact that you are asking people to take sides on the issue and say 'yes or no'. Who will say 'no' after you threaten forum members with that kind of attitude?

That being said, I still think you should stay, but stay for the science, not the drama.

Edit: Disclaimer: I have myself, several friends who are lesbian and/or transgendered, and one friend who is an amputee and bisexual. I am not a nazi.

Wow, this went downhill in a hurry.

Stella, Bjorn is trying to understand, not persecute. Threatening other members in this manner is not appropriate for a moderator or anyone else.

I wish you would stay, but to participate in the community, not to use 4hv.org as a conduit for your own personal conquest against perceived attack.
