Hi sweethearts,

Are there any purely theoretical problems in the creation of micro or even nano TCs,

love Stella XXX

I'd say the main constraint is frequency, and power (but you can get a couple of cm of corona with just about 30W I suppose). But there are several examples (cant remember their name but a uK coiler i think?) of really tiny tiny coils. I suppose if the size of the driver isnt included, you could get very tiny indeed...

Cheers,
Jesse

Hi Stella,
Theres a guy here with the handle shawnLG,
he has done some work with small coils,
he has made a mini VTC, a mini rotary spark gap coil
and i beleive a mini SSTC.
He may be able to offer you their potential pro's and cons.

And as per Dalus' link,
Derek has made some cute micro coils,
of which every one likes to hold in the palm of ones hand and be photographed
at Teslathons...hehe

All the best,
Mel

Hmm..Smallest RSG tesla coil I saw was smaller than a popcan..I know my school has a 1" tall tiny tesla coil, I think battery powered (havn't seen it) and teacher said it gets about a CM at most.

Aw man, I thought I was hot with my desktop coils but I'm nowhere near having a worlds smallest TC sad

Small static gap coils are easy (one you have wound the secondary). Same rules apply as for larger coils. Mine do still run off a 1Kv supply which Is mostly not shown (as it's bigger than the coils LOL).

I have played with small rotary's but there is usually no point, unless you can get to use DC charging, the rotary give no increase in power and an inductor for 1Kv of any usable inductance quickly becomes bigger then the mini TC itself. The one use for a small rotary is to give very low break rates and have large primary caps which is usefull if you only have a feeble power supply.

I have done many Electronic small coils. Link2 Link2 Link2
and a couple of small Battery powered DRSSTC's Link2 Link2

Millie Tess is a little differnernt as it is an interrupted SSTC driven with an RF style amplifier rather than the usual SMPS type amplifier Link2

I beleive I lost the smallest SSTC title to Jimmy a while ago, although we never saw pictures of his last coil ?

Derek.
