Hi all. This did work fine, using a 16F84 and seven orange LEDs to project a clock face in mid air.
I used a surplus 4 lead fan Hall sensor of the open collector variety and three magnets at 120 degree angles to get three sets of numbers. Motor was a fairly beefy 12V 200mA 120mm fan with blades removed, and used two 3V coin cells for power.
It was working just fine, took pictures and then while I was elsewhere, some little (censored) decided to destroy it "just for fun". Whoever it was removed the lid and kicked the thing across a main road, leaving glass and plastic strewn all over.
Most of the pins have been torn off the chip, so its pretty much trashed
Oh well. It does prove that fan motor sensors can be recycled in this way, and if you use six magnets at 60 degree angles with opposing poles you get more precision. Observe.
