I am not too sure what everyone would think of such a thread, but how about a permanent thank you thread! So many individuals here have been so helpful in teaching, assisting, even instructing other members I believe they deserve a thank you once in a while! It does not really fit into any of the current threads (possibly general chat) but I think it would be nice! I'll start here, Thank you to Chris Russell and all of the admins here for providing a productive place for persons interested in science, and all related subject matter, to learn. Also taking time out of your busy schedules to keep an eye on us! See, I think that's well deserved! What do you guys think? I know people can do this already but it needs a home.

4HV has become an important part of my life, Doc, and there's no end to the things I've learned here in the couple of years I've been a member.
I reckon that the serious newcomer is the most important person in the forum, because without new talent, our hobby will die. So I always try to pay back what I've learned myself, by helping the new gal or guy. I may not always get things right, but I give it a good shot!
Also, for some folks, a qualification in electronics or electrical engineering, even the most basic, can be a way out of the ghetto, and we should never forget that. If they get the electronics bug here, they can maybe see their way past hanging out on corners and 13 year old girls pushing prams.
I think it's a shame we don't have more women members, but I guess it's just the same in physics classes - for whatever reason, women are not being attracted to the subject. It was just the same when I did my HND in Telecomms Practice on day-release from Marconi - there were 29 guys in our class, but only one woman, who dropped out after the first semester. I guess it has to do with the whole structure of society, and not something we can easily change.
