Hi..
seems that due to an administrative oversight the inhabitants of the International Space Station may have to pay the UK TV licence fee, as any device able to receive BBC transmissions over the Internet is now covered.

Of course I'm sure this one will get filed in the same round file as the request for royalties for playing DVDs on the ISS (that one was a while back now)

well they'd better cough up soon then, otherwise they might be getting a knock on the door!

It's interesting the way the BBC itself always plays down the aggressive bully-boy tactics of the license enforcers, and the fact that there are 225 women actually in prison for not having a TV license as part of the government's policy of punishing the poor.

Hi Noelle, here is a feminist perspective on all the women who are now in prison in Britain for not having a TV license.

I once read in a copy of "wireless world" that they were going to abolish the TV license, as they did radio licensing. I wish I knew where that article went.

This persecution is typical of government owned institutions. I happened to read the TV license a while back, and now even if you don't own a TV but you do own a mobile phone, or computer, you are obliged to pay the license, or go to jail !
Looks like blatant profiteering to me.

I haven't owned a TV or had a TV license ever. So far there have been no visits to Room 101 smile

I watch BBC Iplayer, and am under the impression that this is perfectly legal. The ads recently run by the TV licensing authority say something like "Why not get a TV license for watching streaming media on your laptop". They don't say "You must get one or face a fine".

The only logical explanation for that phrasing is that you don't in fact have to get a license to watch streaming media, and it's just a sneaky piece of PR by the TV licensing people.
