anyone here own one of these? I can see the design flaw here, still you'd think that they would have fixed it before...

for those who aren't aware of this, Toyota are recalling :-
* 2007-10 Toyota Camrys;
* 2007-10 Toyota Tundras;
* 2007-10 Lexus ES 350s;
* 2006-10 Lexus IS 250s and 350s;
* 2005-10 Toyota Avalons;
* 2005-10 Toyota Tacomas;
* 2004-09 Priuses

If you own one of these cars, take OUT the floor mat on the driver's side.

regards, -A

Ha ha, reminds me of Fight Club where the Edward Norton character becomes mentally burnt out after years of statistical juggling to explain away the fatal crashes of his car-manufacturing employers without having to do any product recalls. cheesey

This reminds me of quite an amusing incident in my first car. I put my foot down one day, then when I released the pedal, it disappeared - and carried on accelerating. What had happened was that over the years, the pedal had made a hole in the carpet - and in that one instance, the pedal got stuck in the hole - and then tried to lift the carpet up when I released it, making things worse! So the pedal ended up being underneath the carpet, pinned down by it! Luckily I was in about 3rd, so I was able to just brake very hard.

Nah, he didn't. The car is still going today and now doing 11 billion mph.

Switching off your engine in mid-drive is fun, until you accidentally turn the key one step too far and engage the steering lock.

lol, there's lots of things you can do - brake, dip the clutch, switch off, knock it out of gear etc etc... Braking hard was just instinct, my brain hadn't had time to figure out what the hell had just happened to the pedal cheesey

Luckily when I slowed down enough I was able to jump out and let the car carry on - watched it in the distance launch itself mid air and off into the sunset...

New Scientist, Oct 2, 2009:

"D-reg Fiesta plumbs depths of solar system"

A new frontier in space exploration was broken yesterday, when a 15 year old Ford Fiesta overtook the Voyager 12 space probe to become officially the most distant man-made object in the universe.

In 2001, the car's gas pedal became stuck in a hole in the carpet, causing it to speed out of control and become airborne, and it has been accelerating ever since.

A spokesman for the Ford Motor Company said: "We are delighted with this achievement, it just goes to demonstrate the performance and value of Ford products. When you buy a Ford car, you're also getting a space probe, and none of our competitors can match that. We don't think it is a safety issue at all."

The car's owner was unavailable for comment.

Another addition to the manual transmissions are superior debate! suprised Glad nothing worse happened, such occurrences can lead to horrible conclusions.
