Im going to be applying for university to study electrical and electronic engineering within the next month or so, so i was wondering, is mentioning my various experiences with HV and large cap banks a good or bad idea? I know these concepts seriously worry my current teachers, so i wouldnt want to have the same effect on the person reading my personal statement...

Where are you applying to? To be frank, I'd mention that you have an active interest in practical electronics - if you've exhibited at Teslathons, just mention that - don't be specific - it serves to pique the admissions tutors' interest - makes you stand out from hoi polloi....
My wife (Cambridge & London graduate) specialises in helping her students get into Oxbridge and she is very successful at that indeed, helping them with their personal statements - drop me a PM if you want specific help/pointers...
