I have always wondered what you guys all use for a meter. I use a cheap digital GB Instruments GDT-11 meter. It tests
Ohms
DC volts
AC volts
0-10 amps
Diodes

Works for what I need it for. I got it at the local hardware store.

BTW I am saving up for a MultiTec Digital MultiMeter
Made by Extech Instruments

So what do you use?

I have a FLUKE 87. Only measures Volts, Amps, and Ohms and it does it right!

Nice, a FLUKE, if only I could afford that...
Any pics?

No pics handy, but you can search for it on the web to find pics. I also have an older FLUKE 77, but i damaged the display accidentally while doing some marx generator measurements (i was monitoring primary charge voltage at input to an NST and kick-back got through and zapped the meter)

I got a cheap analog, $6CAD beat that!
It's an undead, I have killed it twice, but still managed to fix it. no Silicon in the meter except the 4148 clamping diodes, very easy to debug.

Excelite True RMS clamp on, Power factor and Phase angle (very cool, bought it for PF and angle)
ECG DMM cost me $80 way back when
BK clamp on (not working properly)
Wavetek LCR55
RS pocket DMM the probe type, needs batteries

Cheapo DMM got for FREE from the elec. store I fill in on emergencies. Supposedily $20 meter, but its a total POS.

And box of analogs when I need a needle.

Im going to take my 50-0-50uA meter and turn it into a lab galv. one of these days.

My primary is a protek 506 multimeter, it has everything voltage/current (trueRMS), temp, capacatance, inductance, diode, resistance, freq out, freq in, and a serial port so it can be used as a datalogger. I also have 2 6 digit desk meters for when you need a lot of precision (not sure if I would trust the accuracy though...). I think I have killed all of my 'disposable' ones angry

And of course my most important one is my BK precision 2120B dual trace 30mhz analog scope...

BTW, this is the first post I have ever made from a computer not running windows amazed It was a long battle but ubuntu seems to be working...

I've got a large 6 digit true RMS benchtop meter made by Schlumberger, a reasonably good quality handheld meter made by ITT (a bizarre design with both a digital display and a needle. I must admit I bought it because it looked neat)
and a cheap and nasty Altai thingy.

We have better meters at work, an Agilent 34401 and a Fluke 87, but I won't bring them anywhere near my HV experiments at home suprised

I've got this €80 Dynatek multimeter; it measures volts, amps, ohms, frequencies and capacity and it's able to perform 'logic tests'.

I don't use every function much, but the capacity meter is a nice touch.
