I am trying to order a bunch of Steve's driver boards from Express pcb. How do I convert the .brd file into the .pcb layout file. I have been trying to figure this out forever, but I am still clueless, even after googling around.

Thanks

In express pcb, when you go to 'save as' it saves it as a .pcb file. Or it does atleast in the version Im using... How are you getting the .brd files?

Cheers,
Jesse

Hey Steve, i already sent you a PM about it. Does that not work? Does the program cost money (that'd be utterly stupid) ?

When I saved the driver from Steve's website (by clicking Save As) that saves it as a .brd file.

Express pcb will only open .pcb files.

Ok, heres what I don't get. I am at this website.

Link2

On page 14, it shows how to creat the gerber files, but there are a whole bunch of categories, such as top layer, solder mask top, solder mask bottom. Am I supposed to make every single one of these. I honestly can't figure any of this out.

Did you ever figure this out? I have been trying to get a few of these boards myself. I use ExpressPCB and like you said it won't open the file.... I don't want to have to buy Eagle just to get a few boards...

1. BRD files are from EAGLE *not* Express PCB - each PCB design program generally has its own file format
2. I'm not at all sure there is a simple (or even complex) way to convert between the formats - they are completely different
3. Find a PCB manufacturer that accepts Eagle BRD files directly (like Olimex and a bazillion others) or....
4. ...get the free version of Eagle from their website (cadsoft.de) and generate the Gerbers for whichever fab company you are using.

Option 4 is generally for people who understand about PCB manufacture & Eagle - you may want to go to the Eagle news forums at cadsoft.de or the webby versions at Stratford Digital (eaglecentral.ca)

You best bet by far is option 3.

This is not an Eagle support forum.

Cheers
