well looks like they've got the crackpottery sorted as far as the overexcited dancing engineers, but now they just need to replace the LHC with some huge so called free energy device and re-write the lyrics, then that video would really make my day cheesey

I've been trying to find out when the LHC is scheduled to go to full power. Does anyone know? You'd think this would be readily available info considering it's one of man's greatest scientific endeavors...

Has the magnet soldering not been figured out?

Place your bets: Higgs boson or not?

My vote: No

I feel profoundly sorry for the LHC crew, and imagine that they must feel that mixture of fear and contempt than many science professionals have for the media, and university PR offices, especially strongly.

Think of all those 1940s films of V2 rockets careering crazily into the sky, or exploding on the launch pad - hundreds of them - and think how those endless early failures at Peenemunde would lead directly to the One Small Step for Man less than 30 years later.

Engineering is ever a form of succesive improvement, which pauses only for so long as a product or project under development is in equilibrium with the expectations of potential end users, or customers.

But billlions of national wealth and prestige are tied up in the LHC, so media professionals rather than science professionals were given the job of marketing the LHC brand, with catastrophic results.

God Particles, and Spawning Black Hole stories dished out in PR handouts had the world holding its breath for Andy Warhol's famous 15 minutes, but when the great machine broke down it was the scientists that were made to look ridiculous, while the PR teams went back to promoting global brands of lipstick and hamburgers.

They'll get it right in the end, if the money supply rug isn't pulled out from beneath their feet first, in the name of economic 'tough choices' sad

I worked at CERN in 1983 - lived in Échenevex - also worked for DEC in Genève (Petit-Lancy).

CERN was a very strange place in those days (probably still is). Food was good, though...
