Thank you so very much, Eirik!

All the places I have lived, Fauske, Alta, Kautokeino, all the miles of cable at the dead Sulitjelma copper mine, I love it all.

Who has not seen the bleached wooden racks where once cod fillets dried in sun and wind?

And never have I seen such solitude as at Barents Sea, looking through the razor wire at Boris Gleb, and the filthy, infested desolation of the Russian nickel mines just a Mile away? And Bear Island, and Svalbard too, not a holiday, but an addiction that went on and on for twenty years.

I can hear still the terrible echo of shell-fire at Narvik, and looked for, and found, locked doors in the cliff face, and broken German razor wire
still hanging down the granite faces . And in other times, getting totally smashed in the nightclubs of Christiania!

So if you think me generous, and wonder why I have sent you bits and pieces, you will understand now. You and a few other good men here would push their way to the front to have a chance on the Fram, wouldn't you, Eirik? So thank you for your birthday wishes, and being my friend,

Your pal,

Christopher.

Thank you so much, Herr Doktor! smile

When I was younger, I used to think I could swim across the English Chaneel, if I put my heart to it.
Could you have a go at the 25-mile swim, d'you think? Just a talking point. lad.

Now I have a decent mountain bike, and like to go 20 or 30 miles along the coast before putting up my tent, and making a brew at the end of the day.

When I was younger, it was possible to stay in Youth Hostels for not much money, but with all the paranoia about paedophilia, it's more or less impossible for an FTM like me to be granted access.

Happy birthday Harry! If i was as good at expressing myself as you, this post would be really long and interesting. I am not however, but the little there was, comes from the heart.

Thank you so much, dear Friends!

Those who love fishing in mountain lakes and rivers, who love the glacier that leads on to a mountain yet bigger than the icy slope over the horizon, will know me already, because we find our sisters and brothers there.

See the snow scooter tracks mile after mile....

Thanks guys for your birthday wishes.

Harry.

Happy birthday!

The places you talk about always seem so peaceful and quiet. I have always wanted to live in 'the country' and have an easy going life, away from the hectic urban areas.

May you have a very happy birthday, and may there be many more interesting stories!

Thank you so muich, Arcs. I' m sure there are just as many beautiful, lonely places in North America, Did you see the film "A River Runs Through it ? "That''s my sort of life, I guess.
