Kudos to LT for making it publicly available for FREE. Simetrix is a cost option.

No, it's free, well up to 150 nodes anyway.
The free version of Simetrix is not 64bit and has the following limitations (fairly simple to understand!!):
Taken from Link2
There is a limit to the size of circuit that can be simulated. The exact limits are:

120 internal analog nodes (see note below)
36 digital nodes
72 digital ports
24 digital components
36 digital outputs

"internal analog nodes" include nodes inside elements such as opamps. (my highlighting - couple of opamps and you're done)

There is also a limit to the number of some analog components. The limit for each type of component varies. For example, you can have about 18 BJTs or 76 diodes, but you can't have 18 BJTs and 76 diodes. But you could have 9 BJTs and 38 diodes. There are no limits for some components, e.g. resistors, independent sources and controlled sources.
...and the starting price for the full version is USD 3,000 per seat. LTspice is fully functional and completely free. Oh, and it runs on Linux. And is multi-threaded (a real rarity for complex simulators).

However, personal preferences vary and although my degree is in EE, I do not use simulators in my day job, so my selection criteria are biassed by that. If I were designing chips or mobile phones, I might have a different view.

I've used LTspice to model SMPS designs, HV equipment, tube/valve & solid-state amps and probably 100 other things with no real issues at all for the past 7 or 8 years.

Sorry to have got your blood pressure up Nicko. I think Mr Smooth cares more about how to put a model in, than how many bits or threads he can't use his model on. Had he elected to use Simetrix, I could have helped him. As a fan of LTSpice, perhaps you would give him some guidance.

Blood pressure is just fine, thanks. Always is (according to my annual medical) cheesey . I'm not saying LTspice is a panacea, but if you invest time in learning a product that ultimately you are unlikely to use, you may have have wasted that effort. LTspice is not that tricky at all, and cheap shots are, well, cheap... Actually, if you want a real diatribe in a similar but different vein, try this Link2 - now that did make me smile!

As I mentioned, the LTspice group is the place for this (if that is what Jonathan wants to stay with). If he asks there (just take a few minutes), he'll be sorted out in no time. In the interim, the current full manual is always at Link2 (the bit you want really is on p191!)
