So this morning I went to a hamfest nearby and passed up a chance for a 8kJ, 100uF/4kV flash tube capacitor, for $30. My only worry was that it had PCBs and I decided against gathering yet another dangerous capacitor. The moment I got home I was regretting not getting it...

How many people have seen really good deals but decided not to buy, did you regret it?

Anon,
In case it makes you feel better, the pulse energy you didn't buy was 800 J, not 8000. smile

A general lesson I have learned is not to walk away from a good deal,
just because the seller refuses to negotiate a lower price.

I regret not buying: a HeNe laser with its driver for $10, a couple 120-480V heavy transformers, multiple tube testers, many mercury filled tubes for $3 each, a trigatron for $15, and many many other things.

Same here. Such as when i had just started getting into Tesla coils and stuff. I knew nothing about what capacitors were good, and i saw that TeslaDownUnder successfully used ceramic, so i killed about 10 of those (small). Then, there where these other film capacitors i bought, in the title it said they were good for Tesla coils. Of course, i got them and they died fairly quick. Then, those capacitors that are still on eBay i think, they are sorta like CDE capacitors, and they are supposed to be great for Tesla coils. They are horrible for everything(unless of course you use them how they should be used, with a 2x safety margin :D).

I have probably regretted not buying stuff, too, but nothing i can think of off the top of my head.
