Rollng a one ton concrete block

Hi Guys. Here is an awesome project that my friend and I built last weekend. Its called a "round road" It allows one to physically roll a 2000 pound concrete block, because the odd shape of the road keeps the blocks center of gravity moving in a straight horizontal line. Because of this, you never have to lift the block.

I came up with a new invention that will allow me to use the same round road segment and move the block anywhere, and in any direction. I will be working on that invention this week. It should end up really neat.

Once again, that chunk of concrete weighs 2000 pounds.

Neat, but remember that anyone who gets in the way of a ton of moving concrete is still in the way of a ton of concrete even if some timber is holding it up.

I remember seeing a program on TV about someone demonstrating moving stonehenge sized rocks with simple leverage and physics, similar to this. Good to see that people can still think of these things instead of applying more power via hydraulic machines.

100% agreed. Usually today's scientist's attitude would be expected to be something like "Why do something so simple when we can make it over-complicated because using technology makes you thmart hur dur".

I honestly wish i could woodwork half as good as that.

Nice replication. Here is the YouTube showing this technique by the man who uses simple levers to position 22,000 lb blocks on his own.

Ok, my prototype is done. My addition would allow someone to move the block anywhere, and in any direction, using the same round road segment.

How it works: The idea behind my addition is to somehow get the weight of the entire mechanism (road and block) onto a single pivot point. When this is accomplished, one can simply rotate the entire system with the push of a hand. When a large amount of weight is concentrated on a small area, the friction becomes negligible, and rotation is simple, even if the object weighs several tons. So what I do is use the weight of the block to lift up my round road. The block moves about 14 inches past a pivot point, (which is a 7/8'' track bolt) and this lifts up all of the road on the other side of the pivot point. Now the weight of the whole system (2325 lbs.) is on the bolts head. I can rotate the road wherever I want.

If a pivot mechanism was built on each side, one could roll the block to one end, rotate the road 180 degrees, then roll the block to the end again, then rotate 180 degrees again. One could advance the block 14 feet every time.

YOUTUBE VIDEOS (In the videos there is an additional 300 pounds of concrete blocks on the big block to get the thing perfectly balanced, this was a temporary fix. )

EDIT: Right now, there is only one pivot mechansim. To get the system totally working, a pivot is needed at each end, but I just wanted to build 1 first.
