This film had me nailed to the seat.

And of course the alien weapons delivered their destructive charge by way of a tesla coil like streamer.

Go see it!

Unfortunately they don't show it on the cinemas here in sweden but I agree on it being an interesting movie, the whole way of treating the aliens & as you mentioned the technical aspects :P. I did however find the documentary part a bit too long.

Haha! I saw this just yesterday, and on the IRC i was suggesting people go see it :D.

That was indeed a good movie, the best one of the summer I'd say. It was worth the 6 dollars.

Fun movie to watch! I couldn't stop laughing each time of those extras got blown up by an alien weapon.

I swear right before each shot where a guy gets gibbed into a million pieces, they replace the actor with a dead animal and fill it with C4.... BOOM! you get the idea anyways.

Agreed XD. As they blew up, you could see the internals a few of the time, and i am thinking they would not spend forever and a day to draw intestines *that* accurately. tongue

Funny how we notice different things.

What struck me at the end was that I was absorbed by the film.
It had me fooled completely. I saw it as reality. To me it was "that good".
Remember the scene at the end, where the _smart_ alien is running, with just a metel sheet as a shield? How he looked so scared, via body language.
I felt his agony.

Cheers, Finn Hammer

A lot of people felt the first half was too slow. It seems the pick-me-up pace of the second half was to satisfy action-oriented sci-fi fans. I've always appreciated well-written sci-fi movies, even if the development or pace is very slow (Contact, Bladerunner). Sci-fi is NOT the same as an action movie, although then can share similar themes.

One thing to note is the alien design. The artists took painstaking measures to make each alien unique and different in mannerisms and appearances, just as human beings are individually unique in mannerisms and appearances. It was really never a mindless horde of faceless creatures. This was done so not by accident (it would be much easier just to clone several models and insert it multiple times).

The protagonist, Wikus, was a big jerk the entire movie, going as far as gleefully performing infanticide while making jokes about the situation and violating civil rights of tenants in D9. It wasn't until the plot twist that he seemed more sympathetic to the aliens, but even then much of his actions were selfish, personal motivation. The ultimate irony is that the most human of all characters portrayed was "Chris" (with the red vest).

This movie was made in such a way that one should sympathize with the alien race, but the stroke of genius is they look so bizzare to most people that irrational xenophobia kicks in and most people simply go, "eww" on instinct. Everyone cheers Captain Kirk when he gets laid by a green-skinned alien chick but there was a collective groan when the same was suggested in this movie; it was even used to discredit-there is no real difference yet the response is night and day.

If humans can't get along with humans, how would humans treat something genuinely alien? Very great sci-fi done on a $30M budget. Neill Blomkamp is brilliant and it even payed homage to Half-Life 2's gravity gun. Some of his other shorts are pretty neat as well. I am guessing District 10 is a possible sequel due to the ending of this film.

When i went into this movie, my mood was "whatever". When the movie started, lets just say i had other things on my mind. As the movie progressed, i got more and more into it. I was pretty absorbed too. I do this with television as well. I do not watch it very often, only at night when i am about to sleep, for maybe an hour or two.

When it is my favorites, such as The Colony (I hate reality shows, but this one keeps me watching), i often find myself thinking just like they are. I tend to think it would be fun, minus the food and discomfort part :P. I just like to really use my brain to make things work, even when i do not have the parts considered necessary (you should see me fix an engine XD).

How do people feel about the end of the movie? Not knowing what really happened to 'Chris' and Wikus? When that happens i am usually a bit upset, but then when they show what happens i claim "Unrealistic!" or something. I guess i am not easy to please, which is why i don't watch television alot. This movie definitely did it for me, i sure left with a smile.

The ending was great. It leaves room for a sequel or wraps it up nicely in an ambiguous ending open for interpretation. There is a perfect blend of closure and unanswered questions.
