Was at a hamfest today & picked up a 2 gallon can of transformer oil. In a rectangular can with a red & yellow label that says "TRAFOOL" with a umlaut (the two dots that appear over a letter) over the last o. Nothing else on the label. Google search didn't help much. If you google "TRAFO" it comes back as German for "transformer". Oil in German is "OL".
The guy I bought it from said no PCB's & the can is in really excellent shape. Anyone ever seen, used or otherwise delt with this stuff? I don't want to waste a PCB test kit if I don't need to.

Too little, and it'll *cause* a blackout. There's a delicate balance to be struck here, no doubt (happily, indicated by a fill line).
Seriously, though: Bob, if you've got a couple of those Dexsil 50ppm test kits, I say use one. What the heck, right? They're only ~$10, and that's hella-cheap for peace of mind, IMO. Else, if you've got a small quantity of some other tranny oil around, you might just compare the smell, color, and, with proper ventillation, flammability. I'm putting my money on non-PCB, however. PCBs were more common in caps and were disused just about everywhere by the mid 70's, so that'd have to be one unlucky, vintage can to be PCBs. And if you can't be bothered to test it, just don't cook with it, for God's sake!
