My 50 watt LED works fine on an ordinary heatsink, no need for OMG arctic cooling. And even a 100W LED probably has easier cooling requirements than a high-end Pentium 4 did.
According to the datasheet, it's about 15% efficient, so I get 8 watts of light and 42 watts of heat. It's still "feckin' bright" as Father Jack would say. Attempts to get a tan from it have failed so far, though.

I thought light from the visible spectrum was reflected by white Scottish skin. Once you get a tan with UV from the sun then it will zap you like the black CD case

hahaha... thanks guys. Someone suggested i use heat pipes stolen from dead apple macs, as I have a few.
Currently using a spare heatsink and pipe robbed from a dead P4 based laptop (around the right size) seems ok so far and I haven't even used the fan yet. Main issue is that power supply, need 34V at 3.2A (!) which is not simple.

hehe... one of my friends did that to a pc he owned. last time I checked it was still running despite only having two blades intact. They don't build 'em like they used to

I have a dedicated 100W switch mode supply from eBay which I have been using. I will post some pics sometime. Mostly I used 3 x 12V SLA batteries and enough wire or heavy resistors to drop the few volts from 36ish to 34 to get the current right.
