ok this is pretty neat, it seems that the piezo disks used in smoke alarms and other small appliances can be driven at resonance to generate a "flapping wing" movement.
I vaguely recall reading about this somewhere but never actually saw one work until now. Maybe this can be made to work with a small Lipo cell and single transistor oscillator?
-A
edit:- built it, works somewhat. maybe my piezo is broken/wrong type/etc? the only other mod is i used nickel sheet in place of brass... need to find a dead road lamp or something.
EDIT 2:- It does work, you have to use brass or equivalent, I used the back of a dead Bronco tin :) increased the output by about a factor of four. Observe.
EDIT 3 I acquired some broken R/C helis :)
