It has been reported that KCl single crystals doped with Ca2 exhibit sonoluminescence when undergoing plastic deformation in the presence of X-rays.*

My question is this: in the absence of other information, what should we construe "doped" to mean in practice? a few ppm as a starting figure? I would be using the chloride as my source of Ca2 ions.

In the research lab I work in, we often dope as high as 1-2 mol%. I will look the paper up on Monday at work, and try to see if I can come up with anything definitive.

Sorry it took a while to get back on this...been crazy busy lately.

Looks like they (Nakamura, et al.) were doping 0.1 mol% (in liquid phase) then growing the KCl:Ca2+ crystals.

Attached is the journal paper.
