Some good ideas there. I'm not too worried about table size as I've got 32kbytes of memory in the micro to play with and my table size is a 2 x 540 array of integers = 2 x 540 x 2 (bytes per int) = 2160 bytes.

Plus, having a lookup for every ADC count in a certain range means that I can subtract the minimum ADC value in the array from the actual ADC count to get the array location with the correct temperature in for a super fast lookup and no intermpolation (at the expense of a large table)

temperature = LUT [ temperature values ] [ ADC count - LUT [ adc values] [ first value ] ]

I haven't come across the LM35 before and it does look interesting. The cost of the TO92 version is the same as the thermistors that I had selected. As tobias points out, much easier to code, no LUT required. A bit more V/ºC would be nice but I think I could live with that.

Decisions, decisions... I think I might get an LM35 for evaluation purposes!

There's also the DS18B20, which has a single-wire digital interface. They might be a bit more expensive, but they are very easy to use, not requiring any AD-conversion, and already outputting temperature in degrees celcius with 1/16 degree resolution. Accuracy is not bad either.

Interfacing them is not really hard either.

The AD590 is a two-wire precision linear PTAT sensor that runs on 4 to 40VDC, if a current transducer is appropriate for your design.
