Hi all, Why all you guys use soo huge capacitor on fullbridge fullwave rectified drsstc's? I mostly see some 3300uF/400V what happens if i use only for example 330uF?? (those huge caps are too expensive for me)

IIRC there was a DRSSTC even without any film caps - the only cap aside the one in the primary LC was a huge load of small lytics acting both as smoothing cap and bridge bypass.

MadsKaizer is right that the esr may be less than one large cap but that it depends on how many you have. I have done a dozen with buss work in a full wave dubler configuration. I don't think it is apropriat for monster coils but table top coils are fine and they are only a cuple of bucks ea. I have seen coils like this. The place where where you will spend the money is in silicon
