this may be a silly question but can i use 1.5k ohms 100w resistor as a substitute for 1k ohm 100w?
because i have these resistors.
whats the difference and effect between them?
thanks!:-)

1.5K believe you can use in place of 1 km, not much change in output voltage ....

The difereça that 1.5k is a little bigger than 1k cheesey

I think the resistor is in series... in this case you should be using a 150W resistor tongue but I think you can use it, just monitor its temp.

As far as ratings, your 1.5K Ohm /100W resistors should be fine with your 15/60 NST power supply.

You didn't describe their construction; are these conventional wire-wound, tubular ceramic core parts?

Herr Zapp

Herr Zapp! its been a long time.
my project is almost complete, i think about 90% im just waiting my 50pcs 942c caps to arrive then il assemble it one by one.
yes these are conventional wirewound with heat sink attached

Very nice workmanship! Your secondary is a work of art.

When you say your resistors have an "attached heat sink", do you mean that they have an integral finned aluminum housing?

You might consider adding quite a few more air holes in the inlet plate, baffle plate, and exhaust plate of your static spark gap chamber. I think the existing holes may be too restrictive to allow the vacuum motor to provide anywhere near its full flowrate.

Have you created a layout yet for your MMC? Remember to leave adequate spacing between each capacitor (at least 10-12mm), and plenty of distance between the ends of the strings to prevent any possibility of surface tracking on whatever type of material you are mounting the capacitors on.

Hope to see your "first light" photos soon .....

Regards,
Herr Zapp

Herr Zapp
thanks for the kind words. it took me a lot of time winding this secondary coil. i made a 'winder' to keep things easy.
so, back to the topic.
here is what my resistor look like:
http://www.tme.eu/katalog_pics/6/9/f/69f23f47eb52ec17a805b5d4615ccee3/ax200wr%200r1.jpg

'bout my static spark gap, yeah i dont have any idea how many/where to 'put' holes.
maybe i'll add more like you said. im afraid that when i put too many holes, it'll reduced the 'force' of air getting in to the electrodes. i'll experiment!

for my mmc, i will mount them on a poly acrylic. 1/4 in thickness. is that ok?
i dont have any layout yet because i don't have any reference, the size, design etc... so im waiting for them first but
i'll design it like in the deepfriedneon MMCs

and yes hoping for some good result

again thank you for helping me all the way up
Herr Zapp!
