Now I understand a 555 flyback driver is going to want to pull amps, this being, the transformer will heat. But I have 2 issues.
1) If I run the transformer at 77V, it will be hot at hell after 5 mins of toying around with tuning (on/off repeats)
2) Mosfet, HOT.
Now, The Mosfet use to never get hot, even at 77V, it never was even warm. Randomly, awhile ago, my tesla streamers got smaller, and my mosfet started to heat a ton. My guess, its dieing.
How can I help my transformer live better? Is there any way I can help protect it from heat damage?
Is it possible a transformer has heat protection or a mosfet? I was running it, and I was going to film it after some changes, and out of no where, my flyback was pushing out what looked to be 12V baby zaps. I thought, Oh god.. My mosfet died. After watching some of the Pitchmen finally episode, I came back to it, turned it on expecting a baby spark, It was a big loud usual spark. SOMEHOW something triggered after a cooling stage, and it works again.
Any questions please ask, I plan to move onto a NST so please don't tell me to go to ZVS. However, I might someday, but I rather go to a NST.

You are talking about the mains transformer or the flyback? Well, both of these shouldn't change their parameters much after heating up.
However, the MOSFET parameters changes A LOT when it heats up. Maybe you could try active cooling, bigger heatsink, put two in parallel etc. Or build a better driver :)

The flyback doesn't get hot, the main power transformer does.
I found the fault however, it was due to a loose wire in my earth-ground box. Somehow my desk vibrations from the RSG moved it and randomly tripped the circuit.
Better driver will help the mosfet, it never use to heat and its on a 2X3X5 inch heatsink :) IRFP460.
