I think this is a clear cut example of just plain refusal to acknowledge ignorance and at least Google something first...
it's the same with Legislatures in Texas for Most Everything that the legislature has no clue about... just to test if something like this could happen, one representative proposed a bill to Commemorate the Boston Stranger (not using that nickname, but his real name) after saying that the State of Massachusetts had made him noteworthy... for his precision in Population Control Methods.

Indeed. I've found that all the truly wise people I know get that way not by knowing a lot, but by knowing what they don't know. There's nothing wrong with admitting "I've never heard of that, let me look it up before I come to a conclusion." Unfortunately, that's a step that a lot of people just won't take.
