The weather was fine today for a change so I set up the big TC, made a new linkage for my rotating rod and strung it up onto my skyhook.

I'm guessing that TC is not driven by a flyback? :P

Amazing, utterly amazing!

Got your Christmas Tree up early, TDU, or are rumours about everything being 180 deg out of phase Down Under actually true?

There is a tradition of "Christmas in July" as Aussie Christmas' can be stinking hot and a big roast just doesn't go down well in December.

And no, This is not driven by a flyback. In fact after several long runs to get the best shot (this one was 63 seconds), my dual potential transformers get quite hot, so I don't run them flat out. Note the 63 seconds worth of star trails.

The pics show how the angle of the rotating rod can be varied by a control line 22 feet in the air. This gives the spiral which is a little tree shaped with the highest sparking point being 13 ft in the air with streamers extending to 18 feet or so.

Photographically, it is taken in near darkness. The camera (Nikon D300) is exposing continually while the TC is on. Then the TC goes off and I run over to stand next to the TC and the rear curain flash fires to capture me in the picture, then the camera is turned off.
I can do all of this and run the TC by myself although my son happened to help me out with this final shot.

You really go from strength to strength with your creativity and inventiveness, TDU.

I'd love to see an exhibition where some of our inventions were presented to the public as art objects.

Thanks, Harry. Much of what I do is long exposure stuff though. At least the best eye candy pics. The rest of the best (standard exposure) pictures are close proximity/dangerous looking like the pool and Dalek cage shots and perhaps Modern Thinker.
Unfortunately Tesla coils are only interesting for a short while, perhaps double if there is an interacting performer or there is an additional focus such as audio modulation. I read a review of the Palais de Tokyo exhibition in Paris. This used a lot of my pics (cover and 8 pages) in the advertising and they used Finn's magnificent v-twin TC. The reviewer said that he was impressed but nothing more happened and he "moved on".
Open up the dimension of the long exposure and you get a whole range of interesting effects.
The public are not interested in the electronics. Never heard of anyone spending ages looking at the back of their TV.

I guess if I would do an exhibition, I would have a lot of big photos with a small tech explanation and construction photos along with periodic TC demos. It would be a lot of work and of course public liability insurance would be stiill unobtainium.

This pic is taken with the TC off with a fibreoptic spray attached to the end of the rod.
