I have acquired of the components for my first real VTTC except for the tank capacitor. I am asking here if some one has any doorknob capacitors to sell or any good sources, as all of the ones on ebay seem to be DC rated only. The capacitor needs to be high current rated (at least a few amps RMS). I need a voltage rating of at least 10 Kv (I am using a MOT with a voltage doubler, will this be a big enough safety margin?) and needs to be able to withstand a few Kw of RF power. I also have a working graphite plate 803 tube and a 6bk4c high voltage triode (Might be good for home brew X-ray machine) that I am willing to trade for the capacitor if anyone is interested.

Hei Weston, Tesla folk very often build up a"Multi-Mini-Capacitor" (or just "MMC") - a series-parallel arrangement of lower capacity, lower voltage capacitors until they have the capacitance and voltage rating they want. You'll find a lot of advice about that on this forum. smile

The EHT shunt triode 6BK4C you mention is not suitable for amateur x-radiography. The "C" iteration was produced following a media outcry over the radiation safety of the 6KB4B in TV sets, and contains heavy metals in the glass envelope specifically to block X-Rays.

Has anyone ever used a MMC in a VTTC though? I know they have been used in spark gap tesla coils but I have never seen one in a VTTC.
