Saw this movie many times when i was younger (it was usually on cable or HBO, etc...)

It was Sci-Fi film which took place in present day in some US city where a company (or person) was making these sophisticated little robots which resembled large spiders or something similar. The robots were equipped with poison (acid?) and were killing people.

One scene i remember is that someone was in a construction elevator at a construction site and there were several of these "robots" waiting for the person or perhaps even riding on the elevator with the person?

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

UPDATE

With some extension searching this morning, i did find the movie.

Its called "Runaway" with Tom Selleck

Hey this is no fun. First asking and then finding it yourself mistrust Seen the movie myself quite a few times when I was young. Reminds me I want to watch it again sometime if I can find it.

Okay, here is another fun 1980's movie trivia for you. See if you can figure it out.

Clue: Malfunctioning robots kill people in retail establishment Couldn't give any more clues as this is a pretty easy one.
