hmm.. this has me worried that the Govt will use the (miniscule) possibility of a homemade E-bomb as a way to clamp down on HV researchers as well as sales on Ebay of energy storage capacitors etc.

EDIT:- NS is only down on CWGSY, for "unknown" reasons.. just phoned them to ask and they can access it fine..

well such type of weapon is not new as per my information
its only that the knowledge about these is getting common. Well I dont really know what should they do but stopping people from researching is not a good idea. :/

With some legislations about f.ex. lasers in mind, this could be bad news for amateur scientists.

If this gets in the daily press, there is only one thing to do, start lobbying the responsible ministers with email regarding our concerns for the future of engineers and thinkers if we are not allowed to gain interest and knowledge in the fields without being raided by the government.

I don't see any threat here. The only type of EMP device capable of affecting an aircraft thats small enough to carried onboard by someone would be an explosive charge type EMP device, which contains explosives and could be detected by x-ray, etc...

And it would be just as difficult to construct a ground based EMP device capable of affecting an aircraft in flight as it would a suitcase nuke assuming you had the enriched uranium. Its just not something thats even remotely possible.

Just another concern blown out of proportion by the person reporting it.

Almost any sort of technology can be used to harm other people, from the earliest flint hand axe down.

But fears of state control are not unfounded - the importation and retail sale (but not posession) of the large green lasers has been banned in Britain as a direct result of hooligans shining them at helicopters and aeroplanes.

That's why 4HV.org always stresses responsible and peaceable use of technology, so that serious amateur scientists are not confused with political crazies and anti-social elements.

Some time ago I read a danish article from some journalist who was trying to cause some kind of panic by claiming that "magnetic pusle-weapons are a terror-threat to airplanes".
The article mentions digital cameras and marx generators as possible terrorist weapons.

If it didnt make me so angry I'd laugh at the obivous stupidity of it all. Whos gonna get a marx gen through the x-ray scan anyway? mistrust

The other day they even shut down the airport or something due to a package that contained "wires" - turned out to be a spare part for a air plane.

So in short I wouldnt be suprised if the criminalzing thats been haunting hobby chemistry for ages is going to molest hobby electronics as well.

Too many times have we in Denmark seen that politicians react "violently" to journalistic nonsense and they pass some halfasses law that never gets used for it intended purpose, ends up being abused or just makes life harder for all the "innocent".

There have been quite a few of these let-do-something-fast-pass-a-law-now cases in the last 7-8 years, the amount of laws passed since the government changed from social to "conservative" in Denmark, the amount of new laws went through the roof.

I guess that makes two reporters who cannot spell "disposable cameras" -- or one copied the other. :P

The link to Information Unlimited is what sealed the deal for me. If government officials see the pictures on the page that article links to and the cheap plans for portable "EMP bombs" they sell, Info Unlimited will be the first to go.
