I've had a few people suggest that we create a whole new board for ionizing radiation, since we seem to have a number of members that are interested. What do you think? Are you interested?

I think that is a great idea, and would being interest to that subject. I do not think it would be very active though, electromagnetic radiation isn't. I say there is no harm in putting it up, and seeing how it does.

I think that it would be nice, but as rp181 said - it won't be too active, but putting the stuff in chemistry or Electromagnetic Radiation isn't the best (except x-rays)... but that is up to the community as a whole, so just my 2 cents.

I personally think it's a good idea. I don't know much about ionizing radiation, but there have been some really good X-ray projects lately that seem to deserve better than being lumped in with non-ionizing hobbies like ham radio.

Your safety is your own problem, not ours.
I strongly feel that moderators shouldn't try to offer some sort of guarantee as to what information on the forum is "safe", because that would open us to liability if we were wrong. Deciding whether something is "safe" is a job for an expert in the field covered by public liability insurance from his professional body. The new ionizing radiation forum would be no different in this respect.
I personally know nothing about ionizing radiation, so my idea of radiation safety is to stay far away from all sources of it and not fool around with anything that emits it.

I don't think a new board matters and I must admit I would still prefer to post in the General section. I have a number of mostly trivial radioactive projects (and I have a tritium glowing keyring) but I imagine official regulation of this stuff is even more touchy than most stuff we do. (Quickly stuffs Uranium yellowcake container to back of drawer).
