As some of you already know, I tend to use knex for things. I find it a fast, easy cheap way for me to get a job done. Since I have so much that is. From a test rig to hold a rotary spark-gap tesla coil, to rotating PVC for varnishing my tesla coils, and to agitators. I've tested this with 10 pounds and it worked just as good as nothing on it. I tested with 20 pounds, and one of the parts came off the connector, the shaft that pushes up and down. The gears also slipped at 20 pounds.

My questions:

1: Is it a good speed for PVC etching solution?
- I put the motor on the main shaft with no gear, and it moves around my PCB now when I have water in it, it didn't with the old tiny gear.
2: Usually how much liquid do you want for etching PCB in agitators?
3: Can you use plastic for agitating? or must I use glass?

The video!

Edit: Speed using no gears:

When the time comes, you need freeware :)

I've always used plastic for etching, but I think the type of plastic might matter, at least depending on the etchant choice IIRC

as for the use of Knex - I gotta love it, I used to do the EXACT same thing lol, but I decided that it was time to move to more industrial capabilities and more professional looks... that, and the things kept getting destroyed by various house dwellers... mistrust

Anyone know if it's best to have the slower speeds or faster speeds like my gif there?

I do more industrial when the time comes...I got trimming and copper tubing for my SGTC that im making :)

That is a cool thing you`ve made :o) When I used to etch stuff I had a photographic tray suspended by rubber bands with a motor + eccentric flywheel mounted to the underside.

Yes but I plan to use Ferric Chloride, and I was told you can tank it, or have it agitate. And I've found videos of people using the Ferric solutions in tanks that rock back and forth to help etch. As seen here:

His is just waaaay more quiet and better ;) I have speed controlled, its called 1.5V, 3V, and overclock 4.5..and up to 12.

This is the most inovating thing I have ever seen. Etching by hand is a pain in the butt. I wonder if ultra sonic etching would work?

That's pretty cool. I think the faster you can get it going, without sloshing out, the better. The more movement you get will translate into a faster reaction. I also use regular tupperware for etching with muriatic acid and hydrogen peroxide. Tastes funny afterwards though... dead
